Why do you need a lockdown device?
Schools were built to be welcoming places and for fast egress in case of a fire, not to keep intruders out.
Most classrooms have door locks which require a teacher to go into the hall to lock a door.
Studies show that a traditional key is impractical to use when a person is under stress. Even if the teacher has a door that can be locked from the inside, this becomes a nearly impossible task during an active shooter emergency.
A bully looking to do harm from within can be present in the classroom 180 days per year. TeacherLock is “BullyProof.”

Keeping a door locked all day long is disruptive to the classroom teacher, allows a bully to use the door as a temporary barricade, and presents a fire hazard if the doors all need to be breached.

One of the impediments to school safety is that the building and fire codes are built for egress, not keeping intruders out. Specifically, the International Building Code requires that when looking to egress, doors must open in a “single linear or rotational operation.” In fact, the most recent Life Safety Guidance from the National Fire Protection association, was amended to allow for two operations, specifically for lockdown devices. Unfortunately, many jurisdictions have been slow to adopt this guidance. So… we went to work on a solution. Our engineers developed our “new single operation functionality” after thousands of man-hours of work and testing. This video illustrates the optional functionality we call TL-II. The production units will be the same rock-solid aircraft aluminum construction that TeacherLock is known for. TeacherLock is now code compliant in all 50 States!
Built for Ease of Use and Reliability
Since not all doors and levers are the same, TeacherLock II was designed to be used on a wide variety of door levers. Our Patent Pending shark-fin feature allows the user to dial in the right distance from the lever. This assures repeatable and reliable performance and ease of installation.
TL-I Dual Operation Unlock
TeacherLock may be used on doors in jurisdictions that allow for two operations to unlock/unlatch a door. Many states and local jurisdictions have made accommodations for a second operation to unlock a door for lockdown devices. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 101 2018) has made this accommodation in its life safety guidance.
TL-II Single Operation Unlock
TeacherLock may now be used on doors in jurisdictions which require a single operation to unlock/unlatch a door. States and jurisdictions which have not yet adopted the NFPA-101 2018 guidance may require our single-action option. In these jurisdictions, TeacherLock without this option may still be used on doors not in a path of egress such as adjoining classroom doors.
